I’ve been passionate about working in an intersection of journalism and environmental policy since college, which resulted in a three-year stint in the field of law.
After evaluating the difference I’d like to make in the world, I decided to get my MSW at NYU in order to become a therapist. I hope to use this degree to work for a few years in the nonprofit space before working in private practice. I’m also in the beginning stages of creating a podcast that features conversations about the experiences of women in the modern world.
I was really excited to join the Kickback because I had so many questions about what it is to be a mixed race Vietnamese American woman in predominantly white spaces.
I grew up in the South, where I was bullied and discriminated against, then went to a predominantly white college where I faced constant judgment calls about what it was to represent my heritage while trying to fit in.
For me, the Kickback is the first space where I’ve felt comfortable with conversations about the day-to-day and existential crises of being a women of color in decidedly white work, school, and friend group cultures.
